Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
“[The LCJO] is not just a band on tour, but a religious congregation, spreading
the word of jazz.” (Down Beat)
The "greatest large jazz ensemble working today" (The Chicago Tribune) will perform selections from a variety of eras including big band arrangements of the legends of Blue Note records-Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver-as well as the timeless swing of Count Basie's Kansas City Suite and new and original music from JLCO soloist Ted Nash's piece Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by works by modern artists Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Vincent Van Gogh. As the Artistic Director for Jazz at Lincoln Center, legendary trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis is the most recognized face of jazz in the modern era. Named as one of Time Magazine’s “Time 100” in 2006, Marsalis is the leading ambassador and promoter of jazz as one of the true American art forms in the U.S. and throughout the world.
